Darly Joinery Studio is the trading name of DARLY JOINERY LTD, a small joinery business that concentrates on hardwood stair installation. We take on domestic work across the country, from a single handrail to a full open-tread flight, and we do the making and the fitting ourselves rather than passing it down a chain of subcontractors.

Hardwood behaves differently from softwood, and stairs are where that matters most. Oak, ash, walnut and sapele all move with the seasons, so we let timber settle in the workshop before it is cut, and we machine treads and strings in one run where we can. That keeps the grain consistent across a flight and reduces the chance of a joint opening after the first winter.

Most of our work comes from people who have already had a quote from a general builder and want the stair treated as its own job. We survey the opening, check the headroom and the going, and tell you plainly if the design you have in mind will not work in the space. If it will, we build it in the workshop and fit it in as few visits as the house can bear.

We keep the site tidy, protect floors and walls on the route in, and work to agreed hours so a household can plan around us. Dust extraction runs on the tools we use indoors. At the end of a job you get a written care note for the finish used, and we are happy to come back and adjust a tread or a rail if something settles in the first year.

There is no showroom to visit. We work from a workshop and come to you, which keeps the overheads down and the quote honest. If you are weighing up a replacement against a refurbishment, we will say which one the existing stair actually needs.
